Hi %%First Name%%,
Here is your Planit Newsletter for September. This month we will hear from Leigh Swalling (Victoria Territory Manager) and Nicole Thompson (CSR) on their recent trip to the Planit Head Office in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the IWF Tradeshow in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA.
Planit to Open Purpose Built office and Training Centre in Melbourne
Planit is reinforcing their commitment to Victoria by relocating our Melbourne office to a purpose built office and training facility near Tullamarine. Everything is in the final stages of completion, and we expect the move to be compeleted by week starting the 8th of October. All customers with scheduled training have been notified and all training from the 8th of October will be at the new location.
Our new address is:
Unit 10, 99-101 Western Ave, Westmeadows, 3049 Victoria (Click here to see map)
It's right alongside the Tullamarine Freeway and accessed via the Mickleham Road/Gladstone Park exit. It is in close proximity to the airport and also gives country and interstate visitors easy and quick access to the office.
USA Trip to Planit Head Office
After a 16 hour flight from Sydney to Atlanta we hired a Ruby Red Mustang (my dream weekend car) and drove to Tuscaloosa in preparation for our visit to the Planit Head Office the next morning.
The office has about 30 staff and about another 16 Territory Managers on the road. Everyone was very friendly and inviting, and both Leigh and I spent time with Mark Kirkland who is in charge of the CSR's (all 16 of them). Mark runs a great team of CSR's who are all very competitive, he is a very tough boss who really drives his team to do the best they can.
Leigh and I were wanting to visit Graceland on our visit and after finishing up at the Planit Office (along with Steve Cugley) we drove 3 hours to Memphis, Tennessee and stopped at the Birth Place of Elvis Presley, also visiting his childhood home. We then drove another 1.5 hours onto Graceland, however most of the museums were closed and so was the actual house Elvis lived in; so we stood at the gates of Graceland, and also outside of Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel. I can now half tick this off my bucket list; I will hopefully be able to go back again when it is open. On the 4 hour trip home, we stopped and got petrol from a guy who was so excited to meet a couple of Aussies for the first time.
The next morning we went back to the Planit Head Office to enjoy a breakfast with the staff before heading off to The International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair (IWF) in Atlanta. After checking in and looking around the Local markets, we got ready for dinner with all the Planit staff attending IWF. It was great to have dinner and drinks, getting to know everyone from all over the USA, Canada, South America and the UK.
Everyone on the Planit Stand was excited and ready to sell. It was great to see the show and meet everyone whilst I was in the USA.
IWF 2012 - "Rethinking Business"
In August, Nicole Thompson, Steve Cugley and myself attended "The International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair" (IWF) in Atlanta, which ran for four days from the 22nd to the 25th of August. It was held in the same location as the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, covering 2 large halls, which would be around 2-3 times larger than the size of AWISA here in Australia.
IWF is held every 2 years and has been running since 1966. It had around 10,000 pre-registered attendess. "Rethinking Business 2012" was the catch phrase used to help promote IWF 2012. IWF connects and brings together a group of industries, allowing visitors to connect with both suppliers and manufacturers of the Industry under one roof. It also provides the opportunity to discover new ideas, products and ways to constantly improve.
The Planit stand was well presented and planned out, having both a mix of Sales and Services. This positioned us for all attendees to meet with their local representative and/or to have any questions answered by one of our Product Champions. Personally, having the opportunity to meet some of the well-known names from our company (such as Chip Martin & Jacob Stough) was a highlight, some of them you may be aware of through our E-Support Forum.
At our stand we had representatives from around the world including America, South America, Australia, England and Canada. Every sale made, a whistle was blown, which happened quite regularly. It was valuable to get a firsthand experience on just how big of a presence we have in America and abroad.
All the major machinery companies were on display, demonstrating their latest innovative machinery. Seeing "Screen 2 Machine Ready for Cabinet Vision & Cabnetware" magnets on machines as well as Powered by AlphaCAM was a highlight. It was evident how well repsected our Cabinet Vision, Cabnetware and AlphaCAM products are within the Industry.
The trip was a fantastic experience, something I will remember for a very long time. It has broaden my knowledge in the Woodworking industry and exposed me to the many and varied ways Planit products, CNC Machinery, Hardware and other industry related products can be used around the world.
